I believe it is important to explore the lens of female entrepreneurs who share with us their stories and deep dives into their Canadian Side Hustle journey. I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing a guest in my neck of the woods – Suzanne Tucker from Saint John, New Brunswick, a long time connection I met during my university days in the MBA Program at the University of New Brunswick.
Suzanne juggles many hats from Professor, Entrepreneur, Author and also finds the time to take care of herself through exercising, eating healthy and staying positive. Given her multi-dimensional expertise, our discussion focused on her experience growing her Canadian Side Hustle Business through the lens of an Accountant.
Question: When you put on your Accountant hat, what advice do you have for single moms, individuals and conventional families who are trying to ascertain whether or not to jump head first in their Canadian Side Hustle Business?
For sure, it is important to save time and find Founders who have established a Canadian Side Hustle business and learn how to do it from them. Decide on your business structure early and bring on outside expertise as needed. To grow your business, be sure to network with organizations in your community and identify who to connect with early. Highlight your skills and expertise and be prepared to build your reputation by providing good quality work to your clients. Most importantly become ruthless planners with your time and resources.
Question: At what stage in your Canadian Side Hustle Business should you start thinking about bringing in an Accountant?
Putting on her Accountant hat, Suzanne shared that once you start generating an income of $20K to $30K this is the real trigger to seriously consider bringing in an Accountant to do your books. This will save you time and money, as well ,you have the assurance of an expert providing you with good advice especially if this is not your background. It is important to focus on what you do best!
This is definitely a burning question for most entrepreneurs starting off, so without giving too much away, listen to this epic conversation with Suzanne Tucker. There are some great golden nuggets which will get you on the track to start thinking of how you structure your business as well as when to engage outside expertise and so much more including: managing your financial habits; importance of time allocation and all that jazz that make our lives exciting!
